Office 2024 System Requirements — Can Your PC Run It?

Before purchasing Microsoft Office 2024 Professional Plus, you need to make sure your PC meets the system requirements. The good news is that Office 2024 runs on most modern Windows computers. Here's everything you need to know about compatibility.

Minimum System Requirements

To run Office 2024, your PC needs Windows 10 version 2004 or later, or Windows 11 as the operating system. The processor must be 1.1 GHz or faster with at least 2 cores on either x64 or ARM64 architecture. You need at least 4 GB of RAM for the 64-bit version (2 GB for 32-bit), and 4 GB of free disk space. Your display should support at least 1280 x 768 resolution, and you need DirectX 9 or later graphics with WDDM 2.0 driver.

Recommended Specifications

For the best experience, we recommend Windows 11 with latest updates, a 4-core processor at 1.6 GHz or faster, 8 GB or more of RAM, an SSD with at least 10 GB free, a 1920 x 1080 or higher resolution display, and DirectX 12 compatible graphics. With these specs, Office 2024 will run smoothly even with large files and multiple applications open simultaneously.

Windows Version Compatibility

Office 2024 supports Windows 10 (version 2004 and later) and Windows 11 (all versions). It does NOT support Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, or Windows 10 versions before 2004. If you're on an unsupported Windows version, you'll need to update your operating system before installing Office 2024.

Checking Your PC's Specs

To check if your PC meets requirements, press Windows Key + I to open Settings, go to System > About. Here you'll see your processor, installed RAM, and Windows version. For storage, go to System > Storage to see available disk space. Most PCs purchased within the last 5 years will meet or exceed the minimum requirements comfortably.

32-bit vs 64-bit

We strongly recommend the 64-bit version of Office 2024 for all users. It handles larger files, uses more memory, and performs better on modern hardware. The 32-bit version is only recommended if you have specific 32-bit add-ins that haven't been updated. If you're unsure, choose 64-bit.

ARM64 Devices

Office 2024 runs natively on ARM64 processors, including Microsoft Surface Pro X and other Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered devices. You get full native performance without emulation, which means excellent battery life and responsiveness on ARM-based Windows laptops and tablets.

Network Requirements

An internet connection is required for initial download (approximately 3-4 GB) and activation. After activation, Office 2024 works completely offline. No ongoing internet connection is needed for any Office features to function. Monthly security updates require internet access but can be deferred if needed.
